Emily Thornton serves as director of development in the School of Health & Human Sciences (SHHS). In partnership with the dean, she is responsible for the strategy and implementation of an overall plan to strengthen relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations that lead to philanthropic support for SHHS. Key priorities for SHHS include increased student support, sustaining faculty excellence, community engagement, and enabling graduates to help individuals in their community to live well. This strategy consists of a focused annual and major gift program, representation at department and university events, and working closely with marketing and communications staff to develop branding and messaging for donors and alumni.
Prior to beginning her appointment at the School of Health & Human Sciences, Thornton was director of development for the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at IUPUI starting in April 2017. Before that role, Thornton served as director of advancement, development manager, and development coordinator for the TKE Educational Foundation in Indianapolis for nearly four years. Thornton graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mercer University with a B.A. in Journalism in 2012 and received her M.A. in Philanthropic Studies in 2016 from Indiana University.
