Dietetic Internship Program

Admission requirements

  • You must have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • You must meet current educational standards of the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
  • As part of the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services (DICAS) application, you must submit a Declaration of Intent to Complete Form or a verification form signed by the program director of an ACEND accredited undergraduate dietetics program.
  • A minimum overall academic GPA of 3.0 is required. Minimum GPA for coursework in the major is 3.0. Science grades in biochemistry and physiology must be B or better. Grades in upper-level coursework (300 and 400 level) within the dietetics major must be a B or better. Note: Grades more than five years old will be less heavily weighted.
  • Three months’ work experience is required. Work experience within or outside the profession is acceptable. For applicants with athletic scholarships, the required work experience is waived.
  • If you completed your undergraduate degree more than five years ago, you must have taken a three-credit 400 level (or higher) medical nutrition therapy course, intended for nutrition majors, within the last two years to be eligible for admission.
  • GRE Scores within the previous five years are required. Quantitative and Verbal scores at the 50th percentile or better are preferred. An analytical writing score of 4.0 or better is preferred.

How to Apply

To apply to the Dietetic Internship Graduate Certificate Program, you must complete the following:

  1. Submit application, Declaration of Intent to Complete or Verification Form, letters of reference, personal statement, and answers to specific questions through DICAS by February 15, 2018, at 11:59 PM (Eastern).
  2. Send official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, postmarked no later than February 15, 2018.
  3. Please contact DICAS at dicasinfo@dicas.org or 617-612-2855 for questions about DICAS application materials and fees.
  4. Register online at the D&D Digital website as required by ACEND.

Match Day

Second Round Application Process

  • To be eligible for the second round application process, you must have unsuccessfully participated in the Computer Match Process. If you did not receive a match on Appointment Day April 8, 2018, follow these instructions.
  • Check the Dietetic Internship Admission Criteria. If you do not meet the necessary criteria, do not contact us. If you are missing GRE scores but otherwise meet our admission criteria and are willing to sit for the GRE and accept a provisional appointment contingent on GRE scores, please contact us.
  • Review the Internship Fee Schedule. Make sure that you can afford our tuition.
  • Release your DICAS materials to the Indiana University School of Health & Human Sciences Dietetic Internship Program.
  • After completing steps 1-3, please email a brief description of your DICAS application including your GPA, GRE scores and brief work history to Dr. Jacquelynn O’Palka at jopalka@iu.edu.

We will accept and begin screening second round applications on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. EDT. We will contact you by email or by telephone if we need additional information. Invitations to join the internship class will be issued on Thursday, April 12, 2018, starting at 11:00 A.M. EDT by either email or telephone call. We will appoint a limited number of alternates. At the conclusion of the process, we will notify all unsuccessful applicants that the internship class is complete. All unsuccessful second round applications will be destroyed at the conclusion of the process.

Match Day April 8, 2018, D&D Digital will post the intern names and their matches.

  • If you match with us, you must contact us by telephone (317) 278-0933 or (317) 278-0934 or by email jopalka@iu.edu or by fax 317-278-3940 to accept your match by Monday, April 9, 2018, on or before 6:00 PM EST.
  • On April 12, 2018, Thursday following the Appointment Day (April 8), the D&D Digital website will list DI programs with open positions. If we have open positions, applicants who do not receive a computer match should follow our second round application instructions.
