Indiana University’s Dietetic Internship–Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (DI–MS) leverages the power of an IU degree backed by 100-plus years of dietetic internship training and more than 50 years of graduate education.

Our ACEND® accredited Dietetic Internship prepares you to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). You’ll graduate equipped to make a difference in people’s lives and become a leader in the nutrition and dietetic profession.

Accreditation Information

Studying full time in Indianapolis for two years puts you in the heart of the state’s leading health- and medical-care facilities. You’ll benefit from:

  • Strong preparation in medical nutrition therapy, food systems, foodservice, and management
  • 1,184 hours of supervised practice experience in a wide variety of dietetic practice areas
  • Tertiary care, medical nutrition therapy practice for adults and pediatrics
  • Self-selected 4-week capstone experience
  • Advanced education (30 credit hours of graduate academic coursework) to promote professional growth

DI–MS Mission and Goals

The Dietetic Internship–Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (DI–MS) program mission is to provide advanced education and supervised practice opportunities for future leaders in the application and advancement of dietetics. 

The overriding DI–MS program goal is to assist the DI–MS student in making the transition from student to professional. 

Objective 1: At least 80 percent of the DI–MS students complete program requirements within three years (150 percent of the program length). 

Objective 2: Of graduates who seek employment, at least 90 percent are employed in nutrition and dietetics or related fields within 12 months of graduation.

Objective 3: 100 percent of graduates take the CDR credentialing exam for registered dietitian nutritionists within 12 months of program completion.

Objective 4: The program's one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for registered dietitian nutritionists is at least 80 percent.

Objective 5: 80 percent or more of the employers of graduates, who respond to the one-year post-graduation survey, will report themselves satisfied with the preparation of the entry-level dietitian. 

Objective 6: 80 percent or more of graduates, who respond to the one-year post-graduation survey, will report satisfaction with preparation provided by the program for their first professional position. 

Prepare registered dietitian nutritionists to meet the needs of the citizens of Indiana.

Objective 1: 50 percent of graduates will find employment in the state of Indiana within the first year following graduation.
