Apply to the Postprofessional Doctor of Occupational Therapy program

The requirements, deadlines, and process for applying for the Indiana University Postprofessional OTD program are outlined below. As a potential applicant, you should review this admissions information before you apply.

International applicants must follow the international application process and admission standards of the Office of International Affairs.

Step 1: Review the admissions requirements

To be eligible to apply for the Postprofessional OTD program, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Completed entry-level occupational therapy education from an accredited institution; accreditation should be provided by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) in the United States or by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) if international.
  • Completed a master’s degree in any academic field. A master's in OT fulfills both degree requirements.
  • Earned a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale within the master's degree program.
  • Currently have or meet the requirements for occupational therapy licensure in the United States. International applicants must currently have or meet the requirements for licensure by the WFOT.

Step 2: Complete your application

You'll apply to the program using the IU Centralized Application System (CAS).

Admissions will be determined based on the following criteria:

  • Leadership potential; assessed through CV or resume, personal statement, and admissions interview
  • Ability to engage in advanced graduate work; assessed through letters of reference and GPA of prior graduate-level coursework.

Step 3: Submit all supporting documents

All supporting documents must be submitted through IU CAS by the application deadline.

You will submit your official master's degree transcript through IU CAS. Applicants with a non-master's entry-level OT degree must also submit their occupational therapy degree transcript.

A personal statement should support your application and be submitted through IU CAS.

Your most up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV) or resume should be included with your other application materials.

We require two professional references to be submitted with your application.

Final step: Admissions interview

After the application deadline has passed, all completed applications will be reviewed by the occupational therapy department. Selected candidates will be invited to participate in an admissions interview either by Zoom or phone.

Following the interviews, successful candidates will be offered admission into the program.
