Diversity Coalition
Welcome to the IU DPT Student Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Coalition
Purpose
The purpose of this coalition is to improve equity in the IU DPT program and the Physical Therapy profession at large. We recognize the responsibility we have, both to our future patients and each other, to mitigate the impacts of oppression and marginalization in healthcare. We provide an open space for group discussions, advice, support, and sharing around issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. The coalition actively promotes volunteerism and community involvement in issues of diversity, equity and inclusion as they relate to Physical Therapy. Additionally, this group provides a platform for students to express concerns and ideas regarding diversity and inclusion efforts within the IU Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.
Mission
Our mission is to empower future Physical Therapists (PTs) to provide competent care to culturally diverse communities and provide an inclusive and supportive environment for marginalized students. We shall achieve this by promoting continuous critical self-reflection; advocating for the increase of culturally relevant education and training within the DPT program; and building bridges between students, faculty/administration, and the larger community.
Vision
Our vision for the Coalition is to intentionally facilitate equity by advocating for inclusion, awareness, diversity, and social justice for marginalized individuals existing within the IU DPT program, the PT profession, and the general community.
This is a new initiative in the IU DPT program; look for more information from us in the future.
