In this certificate program, you'll become qualified for a supervisory position in bars, restaurants, clubs, catering businesses, and other food operations—for example, running an upscale restaurant or advising bar staff, management, and customers with making beverage selections.

You'll explore the business of wine, beer, and spirits management, including menu selection, service styles, delivery outlets, safety, and guest relations. You'll also learn the principles of sanitary and public health as they apply to food service and lodging operations. You'll taste wines, beers, and spirits of the world, and learn how to pair wine with food properly.


  • The certificate in beverage management services is open to all IUPUI students, regardless of major, and can be pursued as a stand-alone degree or combined with an associate's or bachelor's degree.
  • In order to enroll in our certificate program, you must be admitted to IUPUI. If you are not currently admitted to IUPUI, you will need to meet the admission requirements established by IUPUI. For more information, visit

Certificate Requirements:

  • Complete a minimum of 18 credits in accordance with the specified curriculum.
  • Earn a minimum grade of C in each course.
  • Required to have a minimum 2.0 overall grade point average.
  • Tasting courses require students to be 21 or older.
