Diversity Indicator III: Climate and Intergroup Relations

Goal #1: Promote a climate and physical space which reflects a respect for diversity and inclusion for all persons

Strategies:

  • Perform a needs assessment to evaluate current limitations in consultation with university capital planning and facilities to investigate areas that improve the inclusivity and physical accessibility of student, staff, and faculty spaces.
    Responsible parties: Dean, school leadership team, facilities coordinator
    Timeline: 2023
  • Create/promote an inclusive physical space with media/images that reflect individuals with diverse backgrounds.
    Responsible parties: Dean, school leadership team, SHHS facilities ad hoc committees/taskforces, marcom office, admissions counselor
    Timeline: Ongoing
  • In consultation with university capital planning and facilities, plan for physical spaces in future renovations that promote inclusion of and interaction between students, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds and which support accessibility for diverse groups of individuals.
    Responsible parties: Dean, school leadership team, SHHS facilities ad hoc committees/taskforces, facilities coordinator, marcom office, SHHS fiscal officer
    Timeline: Ongoing

Metrics:

  • Number of physical space issues identified and modified through a needs assessment
  • Changes in media/image inclusivity
  • Number of gender-neutral bathrooms
  • Number of electronic entryways where none currently exist
  • Number of social/gathering spaces to share ideas in future renovations
