Admissions

Eligibility requirements

• Applicants may be admitted into the Ph.D. program with a master’s in kinesiology or related field, or directly after completing undergraduate study in exercise science, kinesiology, or related field. Conditional admittance is considered if a student is applying from a different professional background. Students in this position are encouraged to reach out to an admissions professional at hprofadv@iupui.edu, to explore their options.
• Applicants must maintain a GPA of at least 3.25/4.0 for the final 60 semester hours of undergraduate study, and 3.2/4.0 for all previous graduate work to be considered.
• GRE scores are recommended as one component to strengthen the prospective student’s application.

Application instructions

1. Plan to secure three letters of recommendation (not a relative). You will need the names and email addresses of your submitters for the IU CAS application. Please make your recommenders aware of your application and deadline, and give them three to four weeks to prepare. They will be sent a link to submit the letters.
2. Craft a personal statement. Tips for writing are included on the graduate application page.
3. Have a sample of your own scientific writing from a published or unpublished work ready to share.
4. Request official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended. Please allow additional time for international transcripts. 5. Understand you will be required to interview with a graduate faculty member involved in admission. You must also identify a graduate faculty member who will allow you to research with them; your research must be congruent with that faculty member.

Information for international students

In addition to the requirements above, international applicants must follow the international application process and admission standards of the Office of International Affairs.

To earn admissions as an international applicant, you must also meet these program requirements:

• If you are a non-native English speaker, you must meet the minimum requirements for English proficiency.
• Applicants who complete coursework outside of the United States must have their official foreign transcripts evaluated and translated by an approved independent educational evaluating service based in the United States at their own expense. The evaluation should establish a degree equivalent and course-by-course equivalent for all foreign coursework.
