High school student application process

As an incoming freshman, you’ll be eligible for direct admission to the School of Health & Human Sciences (SHHS) if you meet all the following conditions.

If you don’t qualify for direct admission to our school you can still be admitted to IU Indianapolis as a University College student. You’ll be able to take classes for your intended major, and you will be admitted into SHHS once you meet IU Indianapolis student applicant admission requirements.

Current IU Indianapolis student application process

If you’re a current IU Indianapolis student, you will need to meet the degree-specific admission requirements to be admitted into the School of Health & Human Sciences.

Once you complete the courses, meet the grade point average requirements, and properly declare your major, you will be admitted into the school following the posting of final grades.

Please note: You no longer have to submit an application to be admitted into our programs from University College. You’ll be notified when you meet the necessary admission requirements.

Degree-specific admission requirements

  • Earn a grade of C or better in the following courses:
    • Anatomy: BIOL-N 261 or KINE-P 205 (BIOL-K 101 will be accepted for exercise science pre-med and PA majors only)
    • Math: MATH 11100
    • Physical Education: KINE-P 212
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0
  • Earn a grade of C or better in the following courses:
    • Anatomy: BIOL-N 212 and BIOL-N 213 (two-semester sequence) or BIOL-N 261 or KINE-P 205
    • Math: MATH 11000 or MATH 11100
    • Physical Education: KINE-P 212
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
  • Complete 12 credit hours from IU Indianapolis
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5.
  • Earn a grade of C or better in the following courses:
    • Anatomy: KINE-P 205
    • Math: MATH 11000 or MATH 11100
    • Physical Education: KINE-P 195
  • Have a cumulative and degree grade point average of at least 2.5.
  • Earn a grade of C or better in the following courses:
    • COMM-R 110
    • ENG-W 131
    • TESM-S 211
    • MATH 11000 or MATH 11100
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.
  • Complete 12 credit hours from IU Indianapolis
  • Earn a grade of C or better in the following courses:
    • ENG-W 131
    • MATH 11000 or MATH 11100
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0.

Transfer students

You can join the School of Health & Human Sciences as a transfer student from either another institution or another IU campus. To be eligible for direct admission, you must meet all the following conditions:

  • You are admitted into IU Indianapolis.
  • You indicated one of our undergraduate majors on your admissions application.

In addition, transfer students must also meet the following degree-specific admission requirements.

Degree-specific admission requirements

Prior to being admitted into this program, transfer student applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Completed MATH 15400 or a higher level math course
  • Earn at least 15 transferable credit hours
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0

Prior to being admitted into this program, transfer student applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete MATH-M118 ;or a higher level math course
  • Earn at least 15 transferable credit hours
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0

Prior to being admitted into this program, transfer student applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0
  • Earn at least 26 transferable credit hours from non-remedial courses at another college or university

Prior to being admitted into this program, transfer student applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete MATH 13200 or a higher level math course
  • Earn at least 15 transferable credit hours
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0
    • While at IU Indianapolis, you must achieve a 2.5 cumulative grade point average to enter into the required student teaching experience

Prior to being admitted into this program, transfer student applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete ENG W 131 and Math 11000 or Math 11100
  • Earn at least 12 transferable credit hours
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0

Prior to being admitted into this program, transfer student applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete ENG W 131 and Math 11000 or Math 11100
  • Earn at least 12 transferable credit hours
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0

If you don’t qualify for direct admission, you can still take classes related to your intended major. You will be admitted into SHHS when you meet the IU Indianapolis student applicant requirements.
